In 1972 The Arts Council of Great Britain was finally given a separate budget for photography. The initial project, curated by Barry Lane, involved inviting 30 photographers to submit portfolios. Eight photographers would be chosen, each to photograph two of eight towns. Called Two Views, the pictures were shown in the towns and a selection were also shown at The Photographers’ Gallery in London.
I was assigned Derby with Christine Pearcey and Kendal with Josef Koudelka. I had left my job in a photo studio only the year before and hitched across Europe to take pictures. On my return some of the photographs were published in numerous photo publications including Creative Camera. In 1972 at 21 I was the new kid on the block!
available at a reduced price when purchased together.
