We welcome submissions — most of our books begin that way.

Our focus is primarily around photography that documents people, place and aspects of change, particularly between 1960 and 2010, however, this serves more as a guideline to indicate what we generally do not publish. Submissions are open to all, regardless of levels of experience—whether you're a professional photographer or someone, ‘who just had a camera’, we review them all. Common questions include: Do we publish colour work — yes. Do we publish work that isn’t made in the British Isles — yes. Most of what we publish has links to Britain and Ireland — that could be geographical or heritage, for example. Or a photographer from the UK might have made work overseas. But, do still submit, even if that doesn’t fit.

We try not to suggest a specific subject matter to avoid limiting the scope of work shared with us. We tend to publish less rural, farming, or sailing-related content, but still encourage you to submit. We have a particular interest in documenting aspects of change, be it in society, fashion, music, youth or sub-culture, or the urban landscape and high street, although these are just examples.

We get lots of submissions and they take a long time to look through, follow up, follow links and so on. We can only respond to submissions that we feel would work, usually within around two weeks. We tend to look around, especially if you have a website. If you haven't received a response within this timeframe, there's no need to resend your submission or a reminder. There are various reasons a submission might or might not work for us, such as its alignment or clash with our other scheduled publications.

We work digitally and don’t have the facility to scan negatives. We strongly advise scanning negatives for preservation, regardless of whether you're submitting to us or not.

To submit your work, please send a brief introduction along with a web link via email. If your work isn't available online, please don’t send image files via email. Instead, please use WeTransfer to send both the files and introduction as a single transfer. You’ll receive notifications that the transfer has been sent. If for any reason we don’t download it within the timeframe, we’ll let you know.

Please send submissions to submissions@caferoyalbooks.com. We appreciate you sharing your work with us.
